Coaching Session Transcription

Transcribe your coaching session. Then see what's actually in it.

Most transcription tools hand you a wall of text and call it done. Coala transcribes your session and shows you your closed-question ratio, your talk time, and how you scored against all 8 ICF Core Competencies. Built for coaches preparing for their credential, not for newsrooms.

A transcript on its own doesn't tell you much

You record the session. You wait for the transcription. You open it, and now you're staring at twenty pages of dialogue with no idea what to do with it before your mentor coaching session.

That's the gap. Transcription gives you the text. It doesn't tell you how many of your questions were closed, how much of the session you spent talking, or which competencies showed up and which didn't. Reading that off a raw transcript by hand takes an hour you don't have, and even then you'll miss things, because you can't assess your own questions the same way you assess someone else's.

Coala closes that gap in one step. The transcript and the analysis come together.

Transcription and ICF analysis in the same place

Speaker-separated transcript

Coach and client labelled automatically, so you can actually read who said what — and trust which line came from whom.

Closed-question ratio

The number most coaches are surprised by. See what share of your questions could be answered with a yes or no, and watch it move session over session.

Talk time breakdown

How much of the session was you, and how much was the client. A simple number that quietly predicts a lot about how the session went.

All 8 ICF Core Competency scores

Every session mapped against the framework you're being assessed on, with the specific moments that drove each score.

Reflection prompts built from your session

Not generic advice. Three questions pulled from what actually happened in your transcript, so you walk into your mentor session with something concrete to discuss.

Why not just use a regular transcription app?

You can. Plenty of coaches do, and they end up doing the hard part by hand anyway.

General tools are built for meetings, interviews, and podcasts. They give you accurate text and stop there. For an ICF student that's the easy 20% of the work. The other 80% is reading your own session against the competencies, and a meeting transcriber gives you nothing for that.

So the question isn't really “which tool transcribes.” It's “which tool gets you closer to passing your assessment.” That's a different tool.

The point isn't the transcript. It's what you bring to your mentor coaching session.

The coaches who get the most out of mentor coaching don't show up with “I think the session went okay.” They show up with three specific moments, the exact words they used, and a question about what they'd do differently.

That's what the analysis is for. The transcript is the raw material. The competency data is what turns twenty minutes of mentor time into something that moves your coaching forward.

One student tracked her closed-question ratio from 50% down to 15% over eight sessions this way. Not because anyone told her the answer, but because she could see herself changing, session by session, in the numbers.

I came to my mentor coaching sessions with specific moments from my transcripts, and my mentor coach said I was the most prepared student she'd seen.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a replacement for my mentor coach?
No, and it's not meant to be. Coala is preparation. It helps you arrive at mentor coaching with specific things to work on, so the human time goes further.
Do I need to install anything?
No. Upload your recording in the browser and the analysis comes back in about a minute.
What does the first session cost?
Nothing. Your first transcript and analysis are free, no card required. After that you pay per session with no subscription and no time caps.
Can I use the transcripts for my ICF documentation?
Yes, you can export them. The bigger value for most students is the competency analysis you get alongside the transcript.
